Lancaster may be small, but it’s packed with character- and the best part? Most of these places are just a short walk from your Lancaster student accommodation!

 

Williamson Park

A favourite among locals and students alike, Williamson Park sits at the top of the city, offering stunning views across Morecambe Bay. You might even spot the iconic Ashton Memorial from a window in your Lancaster student accommodation!

Whether you’re heading up for a peaceful walk, a relaxed picnic, or just to take in the scenery, this park is a must-visit- and completely free. To find out more, visit our blog page here.

Fairfield Nature Reserve

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, Fairfield Nature Reserve is a true hidden gem. Stroll through peaceful woodlands, spot local wildlife, and enjoy the orchard, where you’re welcome to pick fruit (just be mindful and don’t take too much).

Lancaster City Museum

Think you know Lancaster? Think again! Located in the heart of the city, Lancaster City Museum is packed with fascinating stories about the area’s history, culture, and people.

And if you’re lucky enough to live in student accommodation right in Lancaster centre (looking at you Church Street), you could practically roll out of bed and into the museum.

Best of all? Admission is totally free.

 

Lancaster Castle

One of Lancaster’s most famous landmarks, Lancaster Castle is a must-see. Right near the train station, it’s super easy to walk to from most Lancaster student accommodation.

While guided tours do come with a fee, exploring the castle grounds is completely free. Plus, don’t miss the Lancashire Police Museum, located in the castle’s former prison- it’s also free to enter!

 

The Storey Institute

Located in Lancaster city centre, The Storey is a creative hub home to local businesses, a cafe, art spaces, and even a wedding venue.

Don’t miss the Tasting Garden tucked away behind the building, filled with unique artworks and open to the public Monday to Saturday, 9am to 4pm.

Lancaster Library

Lancaster Library isn’t just for borrowing books- it’s also a hub for community events. They regularly host free sessions including crochet classes, chess meetups, and even business workshops.

Some events require booking, so be sure to check the library website in advance. It’s a great excuse to get out of your Lancaster student accommodation, try something new, and meet people in the heart of the city.
