Light Up Lancaster 2024!

AsherLancaster Student Life

Back again for another year, Light Up Lancaster is not an event you want to miss! If this is your first year living off-campus in central Lancaster student accommodation, then you certainly want to make the most of your location and enjoy Lancaster’s favourite light festival. Make sure you clear your weekends from November 7th-9th and head into the town centre for a magical weekend-long exploration around Lancaster as you’ve never seen it before.

What is Light Up Lancaster?

One of the city’s most popular events, Light Up Lancaster is loved by both locals and the tourists that travel here for the festival. What began as a small light trail years before has evolved and grown into a full light and art experience with events all around the city centre. And who can forget the incredible firework display to top it all off??

If your student accommodation is located within the heart of the city centre, you may be able to enjoy the festival from the comfort of your own home! For those who live in student accommodation slightly out of the city centre, why not have a walk down into town and follow the stunning art trail?

What’s on?

One of the best parts about the festival? It’s completely free to attend! Each of the main art and light events takes place between 5pm-10pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, which gives you enough time to finish Uni and head into town to enjoy the events. Featuring light installations for all ages and interests, Light Up Lancaster is sure to have something that suits everyone’s needs. The event itself will feature a series of light trails, live shows and interactive experiences for the public to enjoy. These take place throughout all of Lancaster city centre, giving our Lancaster students the perfect opportunity to walk around and explore parts of Lancaster you may have never seen before. Make an evening out of the festival and treat yourself to some food at one of Lancaster’s great selection of restaurants in the town centre! Trying to save a few pennies? Here is our list of the best value restaurants for our Lancaster students. If you want to walk around the light shows whilst eating, as part of the festival, there is also a street food night market running in Market Square. There will be a large variety of hot food, drinks and sweet treats on offer from the night market, so enjoy a drink or snack to go whilst you explore the live art and illuminations.
