Not everyone heads home for summer break- so if you’re sticking around, you’re in for a treat. At Escape Campus, we’ve put together the ultimate guide for Lancaster students staying local this summer.
By now, your exams should be out of the way (well done!), and with a bit of luck, the sun’s shining too. Whether you’re staying in your Lancaster student accommodation or working through the summer, Lancaster has loads more to offer than you might think. Here’s how to make this summer one to remember…
Visit the Lake District
Okay, it’s not technically Lancaster- but a trip to the Lakes is a must during summer. We’re lucky to be so close to one of the UK’s most stunning national parks. Hop on a train or take a short drive, and spend the day hiking, wild swimming, or just soaking up the views! Click here to find out how to spend a perfect day in the lakes.

Relax in Lancaster’s Parks and Green Spaces
Lancaster is home to some lovely spots for a laid-back summer afternoon. Williamson Park is one of the city’s most iconic locations. It’s perfect for sunbathing, picnics, or just taking in the views from the Ashton Memorial.
Not far away, you’ll find Fairfield Nature Reserve, a peaceful area that even offers pick-your-own fruit in summer. Ideal for a low-key day outdoors.
Discover Lancaster’s Hidden Gems
Though it might be a small city, Lancaster has its fair share of hidden gems. Think quirky coffee shops, live music at Kanteena, and local favourites like Lancaster Escape Rooms. Make time to explore- you’ll be surprised at what’s on your doorstep!
Visit Lancaster’s Tastiest Food Spots
Lancaster has a great food scene. Grab brunch at Journey Social, try a plant-based meal at The Herbarium, or catch the Charter Market every Wednesday and Saturday in Market Square for tasty street food. We’ve even written a blog on the best budget-friendly places to eat as a student.
Take a Trip to Morecambe Prom
Just a short ride from Lancaster is Morecambe Promenade. If you haven’t been yet, summer is the perfect time. On a clear day, you can see across to Grange-over-Sands. Grab an ice cream and enjoy a stroll along the front- it’s a classic seaside day out.
Whether you live here year-round or you’re just staying in your Lancaster student accommodation for the summer, Lancaster has plenty to offer this Summer. From peaceful green spaces to lively events, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the city at your own pace.
