What’s Happening in Lancaster this Term!

AsherLancaster Student Life

Term 1 at university can be one of the most exciting times of the year. Once you’re settled into your new Lancaster student home, you can go out and enjoy the nightlife, explore Lancaster’s city centre and take part in the myriad of events happening this term! If you need some advice on settling in, visit our latest blog post here.

Lancaster Music Festival

One of the city’s most popular events of the year is the music festival. Back for its 13th year and running from the 12th to the 15th of October, the music festival is loved by both locals and students and is not an event to be missed. The festival is taking place at over 60 different venues across Lancaster city centre, including pubs, boats, churches and even a special performance in Market Square, new for 2023. One bonus for all our Lancaster students is that your off-campus student accommodation should never be too far from where the music is playing!

The majority of the music festival is free for the public (perfect for our Lancaster students) and you can visit as many of the different performances as you wish! There are a few select venues/performances that you need to have a ticket for, however, more information will be released closer to the time. Light Up Lancaster

Another extremely popular event within the city is Light Up Lancaster. This takes place every year in November and it’s back for its 10th year. Trust us, this is one you’ll definitely want to see! Enjoy as light shows, sculptures and performances take over the city for the weekend. You’ll probably get the chance to see some of the light from your Lancaster city centre student accommodation windows! For more info about Light Up Lancaster, keep an eye on the Escape Campus blog page and social media channels as there’s a blog coming soon.

Murder Mystery Evening

One of the only paid events on this list is the Mum’s Army Murder Mystery evening being held at the Royal Arms pub in Lancaster town centre on Friday the 6th of October at 7:30pm. The Royal Arms have started running themed murder mystery nights and they have been a huge success amongst Lancaster students and locals! Now this event does cost £34.95 for a ticket, but included in that you get the murder mystery entertainment plus a sit-down 3-course meal with tea and coffee!

Located in the city centre, the Royal Arms is easy to get to and close by for all of our Lancaster students. For more information on the event itself and how to book a ticket, click here.

Lancaster University events

Lancaster University also hosts and is involved in a range of different events and activities. These events take place all over the city, from the University campus, down to the Story Institute in Lancaster City Centre. There are plenty of things planned to suit any interest, from plays at The Dukes to public lectures on a variety of different subjects. Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a wonderful first term back at university!
