What’s on in Lancaster this Christmas

AsherLancaster Student Life

We know that not everyone leaves their student home for the winter break, so if you’re staying late or spending Christmas in Lancaster, here’s everything that’s happening in and around the town centre. From free winter shows to ice skating and Christmas Markets- Lancaster should have something to suit everyone’s needs. So, take a trip out of your Lancaster student home and enjoy some festive fun!

Christmas Light Switch On

Starting off the Christmas season was the Lancaster Christmas Light Switch On. A popular event every year, it took place on Sunday the 24th of November delighting many with its magical Christmas lights. For Lancaster students living in accommodation right in the city centre (such as Church and Penny Street), some were even able to watch the Christmas light switch on from the comfort of their own student homes. The event featured brilliant tribute acts and performances from local bands. For more information and details about the timings, click here.

Lancaster on Ice

Back again for its 7th year, Lancaster on Ice is returning on the 23rd of November until the 5th of January. Lancaster on Ice is probably the one Christmas event you do not want to miss! Every year Dalton Square transforms into a winter wonderland, meaning it’s nice and close for all our Lancaster students living off campus. Starting at £15 for an ice skating session, this is the perfect way to spend a winter evening with friends, to get your tickets click here.

If ice skating isn’t your thing, don’t worry! There are also market stalls selling a variety of Christmas food/drink and trinkets, as well as the Tipi bar, where you can treat yourself to a festive hot chocolate (or something a bit stronger!)

Reindeer Day

The Cairngorm reindeer are back in Lancaster for another year! To start off December with a bang, on Sunday, December 1st, why not go and visit the reindeer and Santa in the town centre for some festive cheer? Hosted in St Nick’s arcade right in the centre of Lancaster, it’s the perfect excuse to do a bit of Christmas shopping. And you get to finish off your day by visiting the Cairngorm reindeer!

Lancaster Winter Wonderland

Sunday 8th December welcomes Lancaster’s Winter Wonderland Christmas event! Now, most students should still be in Lancaster at this time and, if you are, it’s definitely worth the visit to town to see it! Whilst not much has been released about this event yet, it has been confirmed that there will be magical snow globes, winter sprites and even a snow lion around Lancaster Centre, as well as Santa’s Grotto! Wherever you’re spending winter break this year, whether in Lancaster or elsewhere, here at Escape Campus, we hope you have a wonderful time!
