World Book Day in Lancaster!

AsherLancaster Student Life

World Book Day will soon be upon us on March the 6th and you don’t need to be an avid reader to be able to enjoy it! World Book Day is celebrated every year around the world, and it places a spotlight on the significance of books and reading. We know that life for Lancaster university students can be busy, filled with assignments, exams and socialising, and it can be easy to ignore hobbies such as reading for fun. However, on World Book Day you are given the opportunity to reconnect with books and literature or create a totally new hobby if you’re new to reading.

For our Lancaster students, you can enjoy everything the city has to offer this World Book Day, from exploring our bookstores, to rediscovering the library.

Bookshops

Lancaster is home to some lovely independent and high street books stores! We have a Waterstones located in the centre of Lancaster, offering a wide selection of books, as well as special edition copies of certain works. Right across from Waterstones we have The Works, which is perfect for our Lancaster students on a budget, as they sell books from as low as £3!

If you want to support small businesses this World Book Day, Lancaster is also home to some independent bookstores. Located right in the centre of Lancaster is the Assembly Rooms, which is home to Assembled Books, selling a range of books and knickknacks.

Libraries

Located right in the town centre is Lancaster Library, not only are books available but the library is somewhere you can go to access information and advice and speak with others. Only a short journey away from the majority of our off-campus Lancaster student accommodation, Lancaster library is perfect for those of you who love reading on a budget. The library itself hosts a range of different events, from crochet classes and chess clubs, to workshops. Click here to find out more.

For our Lancaster students, you also have the libraries up on campus available for you to use.

Enjoy from your student home

If you don’t fancy leaving the comfort of your Lancaster student home, why not invest in a Kindle, or an eReader. You can buy books on these, usually for a slightly cheaper price and enjoy them from the comfort of your bed or sofa!

Why not get your housemates or friends together and start a book club, or if reading really isn’t your thing, why not try audiobooks? Apps like Audible have a huge selection of audiobooks for you to listen to. Better yet- Audible has a free 30 day trail, so you can see if listening to stories is something you enjoy! They are prefect for busy Lancaster students who are always on the go, listening on the bus, at the gym or when out on a walk.

However you decide to spend World Book Day, here at Escape Campus we hope you have the opportunity to connect with literature and enjoy!
