There are so many wonderful and vibrant restaurants in Lancaster, it is pretty hard to pin down the Top 5, but there are definitely some that have stood the test of time and are popular among locals and tourists alike. From locally historic restaurants to international and even vegan cuisine, there’s something for everyone.

A hidden gem, sitting within a 17th century warehouse on the Quayside in Lancaster, Quite Simply French is a popular restaurant, serving mouth watering dishes. Overlooking the beautiful River Lune, it has a lovely atmosphere and serves some of the most delicious French dishes in the area, with traditional frog’s legs, as well as ratatouille and much more. This is the perfect pit stop to take in the glorious history of Lancaster’s maritime heritage.

The Sun Hotel boasts a traditional bar as well as a large beer garden, restaurant and beautiful airy rooms in the hotel. The Sun is popular for its delicious seasonal menu, along with plenty of cask ales and sits just on the edge of the city centre, near the Castle and train station, making it a great lunch spot for anyone visiting Lancaster, before heading home. With occasional live music too, it’s a restaurant not to be missed!

The Borough is situated in the heart of Lancaster, in Dalton Square. As well as boutique hotel rooms, the Borough is famous for its hearty breakfasts and a great choice of food for all the family. With a comedy club featured upstairs, it’s a must for a pre-show meal or simply a lazy weekend breakfast with the family.

The Quarterhouse is a firm favourite among locals and visitors. With its warm, rustic décor, the Quarterhouse offers a delicious menu of seasonal, locally sourced produce, complete with five-star service. The seafood platter is our winner here but must be pre-ordered as the fish is caught fresh from Morecambe. Booking is essential though due to its popularity!

Last but not least, The Herbarium is a relatively new addition to Lancaster, but is gaining popularity day by day. The Herbarium is one of the only vegan restaurants in Lancaster, offering some truly delicious plant-based food and drink. With a dedicated yoga and wellness studio within, it is a true hub for the health-conscious in Lancaster. The Herbarium also doubles as a bar in the evening, with regular live music and events throughout the year.
